Our lock was faulty and the technician from Leftway Locksmith came out to Finedon within an hour of my call! Great service! He also adjusted the door and lubricated all the hinges and moving parts. He adjusted it so that it doesn't squeak anymore! He installed a new and safer anti-pick, anti-drill cylinder with 5 keys, guaranteed for a year. He explained everything to us and was very professional, friendly and knowledgeable. On top of that, very reasonably priced! 100% recommend Leftway Locksmith!

Excellent service. Came the same day to fix the broken lock on the back garage door and provided a new key. Also fixed the upvc front and back door locks that were jamming. Came the next day to repair the expanded back garage door after all the rain so I can open the door and unlock it. Reasonable price and very friendly service.

Common problems

Obviously is imposible to list all the defects and simptoms which can arise from a broken or malfunctioning lock, but we do recommend to call a locksmith who can repair it in a professional manner. We can repair, adjust and service a wide range of lock types, including the most common ones, such as Yale, Chubb, cylinder, mortice and many more.

Common lock types

The most common lock types can be divided into three categories. In essence, these are named after the substrate on which they are installed. Simply put, these are gate, window, and door locks. Not sure what type of locking mechanism you have? Head to our easy to use ,,how to identify a lock” page, where you can find an extensive list of locks, together with photos and other helpful information.

Door lock

Door

Door locks on aluminium, UPVC, composite, wooden, timber, patio, sliding, garage, shed or French doors can come in many sizes and shapes. The most common types are popularly called mortice, multipoint, cylinder, Yale, Chubb, night latch, or lock barrel. There are also specialist locks such as bullet, roller shutter, and concertina door, just to name a few.

Window locks

Window

There are various types of windows, the most common nowadays being the UPVC or double-glazed window. There are also windows made out of aluminium, metal, timber, or composite. The most common window locks are called espagnolettes or espags, restrictors, casement locks, and sash jammers or blockers. A special mention is for the tilt-and-turn window locks.

Gate lock

Gate

There are two main types of gates. Wooden or timber, and metal gates. The range of locks that can be installed on a gate depends on the location and purpose. For residential properties, the most common is the garden and driveway gate. For commercial properties, the most common types are the pivoting, sliding, swing, and retractable gates.
